GALLIPOLIS — A Gallia County man who recently entered a guilty plea in the Gallia County Court of Common Pleas to one count of aggravated assault after he allegedly struck his wife with a hammer late last year, was arraigned on another charge of domestic violence on Thursday.

George K. Ball, 64, Patriot, pleaded not guilty in the Gallipolis Municipal Court on Thursday to one count of domestic violence.

Ball was previously arrested by deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office on the evening of December 7, 2011, at his residence located on Country Lane near Patriot.

Officers were dispatched to the home in reference to an assault after the female victim called emergency services to report that her husband had struck her in the head with a hammer.

The victim further reported that the suspect had been trying to make entry into her bedroom where she had tried to escape from him.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim’s face and head area covered in blood. The suspect was found in the rear of the home, and it was reported that alleged infidelity on the part of the victim was a precursor to the assault.

The suspect was arrested and emergency service personnel were called to attend to the victim who was later flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital as a result of her injuries. She was treated and released.

Deputies later located the hammer in the residence, as well as several empty bottles of beer and wine throughout the home.

Reportedly, the suspect also continued to threaten his wife while in en route to the Gallia County Jail.

Ball was subsequently charged in the common pleas court with one count of felonious assault, a second degree felony, as a result of the incident and his bond was set at $50,000, 10 percent.

On February 14, after negotiating a plea agreement, Ball pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault, a fourth degree felony, and a lesser offense than felonious assault.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered to be completed in this case and the defendant is scheduled to appear for sentencing at 8:45 a.m. on March 6 in the common pleas court.

Also during Tuesday’s hearing, Ball’s bond was reduced to a $50,000 own recognizance bond and he was later discharged from the Gallia County Jail.

The defendant was present in the Gallipolis Municipal Court on Thursday after he was reportedly arrested on Wednesday evening following a second domestic violence call.

His bond was set at $25,000, 10 percent. He is scheduled to appear in the municipal court for a pre-trial hearing at 2 p.m. on February 27.

In Ball’s most recent previous case, he was charged in July 2011 with one count of domestic violence in the Gallipolis Municipal Court. The charge was later dismissed in September, according to the court’s online docket, because the victim in this case would not cooperate.
