POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Pleasant Valley Hospital recently named Hugh H. Collins as the new Chief Executive Officer of the not-for-profit healthcare facility. Collins’ new role will be effective Monday, Oct, 4, 2010.

“Many qualified candidates were considered but Hugh stood out as the best fit for Pleasant Valley Hospital,” commented Michael Lieving, Chairman of the PVH Board of Trustees. “As members of the Board, we volunteer our time to ensure that Pleasant Valley Hospital continues its tradition of providing excellent care to our community. Hugh brings a great deal of experience and knowledge about the healthcare industry to the organization.”

Collins is a native of Kingsport, Tenn., and currently resides in Wilson, N.C. In 1983, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, Tenn.) and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Widener University (Chester, Pa.) in 1986.

Collins completed an Administrative Residency with a community hospital managed by Hospital Corporation of America and an Administrative Fellowship with The Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. This dedicated professional has nearly 30 years of leadership experience in health care, serving as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and an Executive Vice-President for Operations within several healthcare systems. This experience includes small community hospitals, rural healthcare systems, large tertiary teaching medical centers and physician practice management companies.

Additionally, Collins has also owned and operated a healthcare consulting and hospital management services company where he has been successful in financially turning around hospitals, improving patient, physician and employee satisfaction survey scores and guiding hospitals through successful re-accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

In his new role with “The Family of Professionals,” Collins will work closely with the Board of Trustees and focus upon building a strong leadership team; developing effective working relationships with key constituent groups; improving quality of care and customer service; improving patient, physician and employee satisfaction; improving the hospital’s financial performance and working to update the long-term Strategic Plan.

Collins, and his wife, Janet Smith Collins, have two children, Price Collins, a son who is a junior at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, Tenn.) studying Nuclear Engineering, and Katherine Collins, a daughter who is a freshman at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, N.C.) enrolled in general studies.

Collins and his wife are both active in community volunteerism. He has over 12 years of experience as an adult volunteer Boy Scout Leader and six years as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA. Janet has always served as a volunteer and member of the Ladies Auxiliary in the hospitals where her husband has worked. Also, she has volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels, Salvation Army, local schools and served as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church, USA. The couple will reside in Mason County.
